Most 'broken' dishwashers we see in the first year were installed with a drain hose routed wrong, a missing high loop, or a water supply that was never fully opened. Installing it properly is the cheapest repair there is. RepairWell installs and replaces built-in dishwashers in Ottawa and Gatineau where the existing connections are in place.
What the installation includes

What your home needs already
- A working shut-off valve under the sink for the dishwasher supply
- A drain connection at the sink tailpiece or disposer inlet
- Either a receptacle under the sink (for cord-and-plug models) or an existing dedicated circuit for a hard-wired model
- A cabinet opening that fits the new unit (standard 24 in / 61 cm; compact 18 in / 46 cm)
Work that needs a licensed trade
In Ontario, electrical work done for hire must be performed by a licensed electrical contractor (ECRA/ESA licence); a homeowner may do electrical work on their own home only after filing a notification with the Electrical Safety Authority. RepairWell connects cord-and-plug dishwashers to an existing receptacle. If your kitchen needs a new circuit, a new receptacle, or a hard-wired junction box installed, that is electrical contracting work and we'll tell you to book a licensed electrician first. Likewise, if there is no shut-off valve or the drain tailpiece needs replacing, a plumber may be required. In Quebec, In Quebec, work requiring an RBQ licence or a master electrician is carried out by the licensed contractor we work with.
How it goes
- Confirm fit and connections by phone. Model number of the new unit, photo of the space under the sink, and whether the existing dishwasher is hard-wired or plugged in.
- Install and connect. Old unit out, new unit levelled and secured, supply, drain and power connected as above.
- Test and document. Full cycle with a leak check at every connection; written record left with you.
Pricing
Installation is $189 per appliance where the existing connections are in place and correct. Anything extra — a new supply line, a stacking kit, a dryer cord, replacing a foil duct with metal — is quoted before we start. Whatever the rule, it is quoted before we start.
Questions
Can you install a dishwasher where there has never been one?
Only once the plumbing and electrical rough-in exist. Those are licensed-trade jobs; after they're done, we install and connect the unit.
My new dishwasher is hard-wired. Can you connect it?
If an existing hard-wired connection with a junction box is already in place from the previous dishwasher, Our technician disconnects and reconnects an existing hard-wired appliance at the junction box, like for like, on the same existing circuit. A new circuit, panel work or rewiring needs a licensed electrician, and the written finding will say so. Installing a new circuit or box is electrical contracting work for a licensed electrician.
