These two neighbours could hardly be more different in housing age. Honey Gables, inside it, is a small 1950s enclave. Manotick is a village founded around Watson's Mill in 1860, with 5,315 residents in 2021, a mix of century homes on Long Island and in the old village, mid-century houses, and larger estate lots along the river, about 25 km from downtown Ottawa.
In Riverside South the typical call is on a builder-installed appliance 5 to 20 years old: front-load washer on the second floor, dryer vent runs that are long and prone to lint restriction, dishwashers, and French-door refrigerators with ice makers. In Manotick the range is wider: older houses with basement laundry and narrow stairs, kitchens renovated with built-in and panel-ready appliances, and, on the estate lots, secondary refrigerators and freezers in garages that struggle in winter cold.
