Parts and repair warranty
A repair warranty is a promise about one thing: the repair we did. It is not a warranty on the whole appliance, and it is not the manufacturer's warranty on a new machine. This page explains what a repair warranty typically covers, what it does not, how to claim, and where Quebec's legal warranties fit. RepairWell's own terms are set out below.
RepairWell's terms
90 days on labour and on parts we install. The warranty follows the appliance, so it transfers if the home changes hands. A return visit for the same fault costs nothing. If we find an unrelated fault on a warranty visit, we quote it separately and don't charge a second diagnostic fee for that visit. Parts you supply yourself aren't covered. Once confirmed, the same terms will appear here, on the written finding and on the invoice.
What a repair warranty typically covers
- The installed part. If the part we supplied and fitted fails within the warranty period, it is replaced. Manufacturer parts often carry their own warranty as well.
- The labour for that repair. If the same fault returns because of the workmanship, the return visit and correction are covered, with no new diagnostic fee.
What it usually excludes
- Unrelated failures. A new drain pump does not warrant the door lock. A different part failing later is a new repair with a new diagnostic.
- Misuse, damage and neglect. Overloading, a blocked vent that was pointed out and not cleared, flooding, power surges, pests, or work by someone else on the same part.
- Consumables and wear. Filters, bulbs, gaskets that were not part of the repair, and normal wear.
- Repairs you declined. If the finding recommended two repairs and you chose one, the other is not covered.
- Customer-supplied parts. [POLICY TO BE CONFIRMED.]
How to make a claim
- Stop using the appliance if the fault could cause water, heat or electrical damage.
- Contact us with the invoice number or the date of the repair and the address. The written finding has both.
- Describe what has changed since the repair. If the same symptom is back, say so.
- We book a return visit. If the fault is the repaired part or our workmanship, there is no charge. If it is something else, we tell you before doing any work, and the normal $89 rule applies to the new fault. An unrelated fault found on a warranty visit is quoted separately, with no second diagnostic fee for that visit.
Manufacturer warranty on a new appliance
If your appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, a repair by an independent company may not be covered by the manufacturer, and some manufacturers require service through their authorised network. RepairWell does not claim any manufacturer authorisation. Check the manufacturer's terms first; we will tell you if we think the fault is likely a warranty matter.
Quebec customers: the legal warranty
The Office de la protection du consommateur explains that appliances sold in Quebec carry legal warranties in addition to any written warranty: the item must serve the purpose for which it was intended and must serve for normal use for a reasonable period, judged by the price paid, the contract and the conditions of use. The OPC states that both the merchant and the manufacturer can be held responsible and that a merchant may not require you to deal with the manufacturer. A separate availability warranty requires merchants and manufacturers to make replacement parts, repair services and repair information available for a reasonable period after purchase, or to tell you in writing before the sale what they do not provide. For conventional warranties, the OPC advises getting the terms in writing and notes that any exclusion must be clearly stated. These rules apply to the merchant and manufacturer who sold you the appliance; our repair warranty is a separate promise about our work. For the written estimate rule that applies to repair quotes, see the diagnostic fee page.
Ontario customers
Your rights under the Ontario Consumer Protection Act, 2002 and, in Quebec, the Consumer Protection Act, apply in addition to anything stated here.
Questions
How long is the warranty on a repair?
90 days on labour and on parts we install. The warranty follows the appliance, so it transfers if the home changes hands. A return visit for the same fault costs nothing. If we find an unrelated fault on a warranty visit, we quote it separately and don't charge a second diagnostic fee for that visit. Parts you supply yourself aren't covered. Whatever the period, it appears on the invoice and the written finding.
The same problem is back. Do I pay the $89 again?
Not if it is the part we fitted or our workmanship within the warranty period. If the return visit finds a different fault, we tell you before doing anything, and If we find an unrelated fault on a warranty visit, we quote it separately and don't charge a second diagnostic fee for that visit.
Does the warranty cover the whole appliance after a repair?
No. It covers the repair we did: the installed part and the labour for it. Other components are not included.
What if I sell the appliance or move?
The warranty follows the appliance, so it transfers if the home changes hands.
My fridge is two years old and has failed. Is that a legal warranty matter in Quebec?
Possibly. The OPC states the legal warranty requires an item to serve for a reasonable period of normal use, judged by price and conditions of use, and that you may deal with either the merchant or the manufacturer. We can give you a written finding on the fault for $89 that you can use in that conversation.
