Buckingham and Masson-Angers are the farthest parts of Gatineau from Ottawa, about 30 km from downtown, and both were separate towns until the 2002 amalgamation. Buckingham grew up around the Lièvre River, with a century of sawmills, match factories and hydro dams under the Maclaren family; the 2021 Census counted 12,795 people in the sector.
