Bosch dishwasher repair and error codes
RepairWell repairs Bosch dishwashers in Ottawa and Gatineau as an independent service. We are not a Bosch or BSH authorized service provider, and repairs under Bosch's warranty or AquaStop pledge should go through Bosch Canada. This page lists what Bosch says its dishwasher codes mean and which of them an owner can deal with.
Bosch dishwashers have a few features that shape how a fault shows up. Many carry AquaStop, a leak-protection system that Bosch backs with its own pledge, and Bosch describes a leakage protection system that activates when a safety switch detects water in the base. Some models dry with a zeolite container, and many have a water softener that uses special dishwasher salt. Several Bosch codes are explicitly not appliance faults: a loose pump cover, a garbage disposal plug still in place, or low house voltage.

Bosch dishwasher error codes
The two-digit codes (E15, E24 and so on) are from Bosch Canada's error-code page, which matches Bosch USA's list. Newer Bosch displays show a four-digit form that alternates on screen, such as E:61-03; Bosch USA's page lists these four-digit codes with the same descriptions, and we quote their meanings from a current North American Bosch owner's manual (model SGV78B53UC). Not every code appears on every model, and zeolite and heat-pump codes apply only to models with those parts. Codes vary by model, so check the manual for your model number (E-Nr) before acting. If your code is not listed, Bosch asks owners to call Bosch Customer Support, as it may need a technician.

Symptom guides for Bosch dishwashers
Finding the model and serial number
Bosch's owner's manual says the model number (E-Nr), the production number (FD) and the consecutive number (Z-Nr) are on the rating plate, which is inside the dishwasher door. Health Canada's 2017 recall notice describes the same numbers as printed on the top of the inner door panel or on the right side of the dishwasher panel. Open the door and look along the top or side edge. Give us both the E-Nr and the FD number: the FD number is also what the recall notices use.
What's specific to Bosch dishwashers
AquaStop and leakage protection. Bosch's owner's manual describes an AquaStop Pledge: in addition to the standard warranty, BSH will compensate reasonable and verifiable water damage caused by a defect in materials or workmanship in the AquaStop system, provided the dishwasher and any AquaStop extension were installed correctly with genuine accessories. The pledge does not cover feed lines or fittings leading to the AquaStop connection at the tap. Separately, Bosch's E15 page explains that a safety switch detects water in the base and activates the leakage protection system. When E15 or E:31-00 appears, the useful question is where the water in the base came from, and that is a technician job. If your dishwasher has AquaStop and may be within Bosch's pledge, talk to Bosch Canada before anyone opens it.
Drain installation. Bosch lists a garbage disposal knock-out plug left in place, a kinked drain hose and a missing high loop as causes of E:61-03, and says these are not appliance errors. In a newly renovated kitchen, the installation is the first thing we check.
Water supply. Bosch asks for a flow of at least 10 litres a minute, and its manual lists a filter in the supply or AquaStop hose connection that can block. A partly closed shut-off under the sink can produce the same code as a failed part.
Zeolite drying and scale. On models with a zeolite container, Bosch explains that the mineral stores moisture during drying and releases heat, which is blown back into the tub. Blocking its intake with a dish triggers E:21-30. Bosch's water softener uses special dishwasher salt, and E12 or E:20-60 means limescale; the manual's fix is descaling, not a part.
Recalls and notices
We found three Health Canada recalls affecting Bosch dishwashers in Canada. Each covers specific models and production (FD) ranges only, not Bosch dishwashers in general.
- 15 January 2009: Bosch and Siemens residential dishwashers manufactured May 1999 to July 2005, serial range FD7905 to FD8505. The notice says an electrical component can overheat, posing a potential fire hazard. Recall notice.
- 1 October 2015: power cords supplied with certain Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau and Kenmore Elite dishwashers manufactured January 2008 to December 2013. The notice says the power cord can overheat, posing a fire hazard. Recall notice.
- 19 October 2017: an expansion of the 2015 recall to power cords on further Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau, Kenmore and Jenn-Air dishwashers manufactured September 2012 to January 2015. Dishwashers repaired under the 2015 recall do not need to be repaired again. Recall notice.
Each notice lists model prefixes and FD ranges; compare them with your rating plate. The notices direct owners to the manufacturer for a free inspection and repair, and that is done through BSH, not by RepairWell. A recall is a formal safety action published by Health Canada. A service bulletin is a manufacturer's repair note for technicians, and a complaint is an owner's report; neither is a recall, and none of the above means a given dishwasher is faulty. When to book
Book straight away for E15, E:30-00, E:31-00 or E:34-00, and keep the water supply off until then. For drain, fill and filter codes, try the checks Bosch lists first; book if the code returns. Book for any of the internal-fault codes that come back after one 30-second breaker reset. Tell us the code as displayed, the E-Nr and the FD number. The diagnostic is $89 plus tax, waived when you go ahead with the repair, with a written finding and quote before any work.

What does E15 mean on a Bosch dishwasher?
Bosch says a safety switch has detected water in the base of the dishwasher and the leakage protection system has activated. Turn off the water supply to the dishwasher and book a technician. The job is to find where the water came from.
My Bosch shows E:61-03 and won't drain. Is the pump broken?
Not necessarily. Bosch's manual calls E:61-03 not an appliance error and lists a garbage disposal plug still in place, a kinked drain hose, a missing high loop or a loose pump cover. Check those first. If water still stays in the tub, book a visit.
Is it safe to clean the drain pump myself?
Bosch's manual describes it as an owner task: disconnect the power, remove the racks and filters, scoop out the water, lift the pump cover and clear debris, then click the cover back in. Bosch warns there may be broken glass. If you are unsure, we do it at the visit.
What is the AquaStop Pledge, and does it affect repairs?
Bosch's manual says BSH will compensate reasonable and verifiable water damage caused by a defect in the AquaStop system, on top of the standard warranty, if the dishwasher was installed correctly. If you think a leak may fall under it, contact Bosch Canada before any independent repair.
Is my Bosch dishwasher part of a recall?
Health Canada has published three Bosch dishwasher recalls: 2009, 2015 and 2017. Each covers specific model prefixes and FD production ranges. Compare the E-Nr and FD number on your rating plate with the notices, and contact BSH for the free repair if yours is listed.
