Maytag washing machine error codes

The codes below are from Maytag's product-help site, which covers top-load and front-load washers and links to service in the United States and Canada. Maytag says its lists may not include every code for your model and points owners to the owner's manual for model-specific codes. Top-load and front-load machines share some codes and use others on one type only; we mark which. Maytag's reset is a power cycle: unplug the washer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in.

What's specific to Maytag washing machines

Pet Pro filter. On Maytag top-loaders with Pet Pro, the filter sits in the agitator and has to be installed during the cycle to catch hair. Maytag says it collects hair whenever it is fitted but works best with the Pet Pro option turned on, and recommends leaving it in because it also catches lint and human hair. Clean it after the cycle while the hair is still damp: peel the hair and lint off, brush away what is left, then rinse it at a tap. Maytag says not to remove the cap on the bottom of the filter, and to wash only the cover of a dog bed, as large items can unbalance the load.

The balance ring. If you hear water sloshing in a Maytag washer but cannot see any, Maytag says it is the balance ring: a fluid-filled ring at the top of the tub. The fluid shifts to the side opposite the load to keep the basket stable, which allows higher spin speeds. It is normal, including when the washer is moved.

Lid lock on top-loaders. Maytag says newer top-loaders need the lid closed to complete a cycle. Some will not fill or wash with it open; others fill but will not advance, and drain after 10 minutes. The lid stays locked until the basket has fully stopped. Maytag's troubleshooting is to close the lid, wait for the basket to stop, clear clothing, lint and detergent from the lock area with a damp cloth, then unplug the washer for 5 minutes. If the lock still misbehaves, Maytag says to call a qualified technician.

Front-load drain pump filter. On front-loaders that have one, Maytag puts the drain pump filter at the lower front; on the model it illustrates, you remove the storage drawer to reach it. With the washer unplugged and a flat container and towels in place, Maytag's steps are to release the small black drain hose, remove its plug and drain the water, then turn the filter counterclockwise, clear the lint and rinse it, and turn it back clockwise as far as it goes. Maytag suggests cleaning it every few months depending on use. Let a hot wash cool before you start.

Front-load drain height. Maytag's front-load list says F9E1 means drain times longer than expected, typically over 8 minutes, and gives a standpipe height of 39 in (99 cm) minimum and 96 in (244 cm) maximum, with the U-shaped hose form in place. In a basement laundry area with a low laundry-tub drain, that installation detail is worth checking before any part is suspected. Washer and dryer installation covers the hookup.

Recalls and notices

We found no Health Canada recall of Maytag washing machines when this page was reviewed. On 25 September 2026 we searched the Government of Canada Recalls and safety alerts database, including its open-data export current to 24 September 2026, for Maytag washers and for clothes washers generally. The Maytag-brand recalls listed there are for other appliances: refrigerators in 2009, and plastic-tub dishwashers in a June 2010 Maytag Corporation recall (recall notice). Neither covers washers.

A recall is a formal safety action published by Health Canada with the manufacturer. A service bulletin is a manufacturer's repair note for technicians, and a complaint is an owner's report; neither is a recall. When to book

Book if a code comes back after Maytag's listed check and one 5-minute reset, if Maytag says to schedule service for that code (LdL, F0E7), if the washer stops with water in the tub after the hose and standpipe have been checked, or if there is water on the floor. Tell us the exact code, whether it is a top-loader or front-loader, and the model number. The diagnostic is $89 plus tax, waived when you go ahead with the repair, with a written finding and quote before any work.
