LG dryer repair and error codes

RepairWell repairs LG electric, gas, steam and WashTower dryers in Ottawa and Gatineau. We are an independent service, not an LG authorized servicer, so work that must be done under LG's warranty should go through LG Canada. For everything else, the diagnostic is $89, waived when you go ahead with the repair, and you get a written finding and a quote before any work starts.

LG dryers report a lot through the display. Many models measure how freely air leaves the dryer and show the result as a d-code or as bars on the Flow Sense indicator, so a restricted vent often shows up as a code before it shows up as damp towels. Other LG codes point at the home's power supply rather than the dryer itself. Knowing which group a code belongs to tells you whether the next step is the vent, the breaker, an electrician or a technician.

RepairWell is an independent repair service and is not affiliated with or authorized by LG.

LG dryer error codes

The codes below come from LG's dryer error code list and its blinking-LED code page on LG's U.S. support site. We found no Canadian LG dryer code list we could read. Not every code appears on every model: E13 applies only to hybrid condensing dryers, GAS only to gas dryers, and Add and E05 only to steam models. Check the owner's manual for your model number before acting on a code. If the manual says something different, the manual wins.

Some displays are not faults. LG describes Check Filter as a reminder to clean the lint filter, CL as Child Lock (hold the Child Lock key for 3 seconds on most models), the Cooling light as the normal last five minutes of the cycle, and Wrinkle Care as the drum tumbling for 10 seconds every 6 minutes for up to 3 hours. LG lists nE and nF as Wi-Fi module faults that need service, and E21 as a drain error that applies to washer-dryer combos.

CodeWhat LG says it meansChecks LG lists for ownersWhen to bookSource
d75, d80, d90, d95 or Flow Sense barsThe exhaust duct is restricted: about 75, 80, 90 or 95 percent. Two or four bars on the Flow Sense indicator mean the exhaust is severely restricted. LG notes that on a gas dryer, d80 may instead indicate a lack of gas supply.
  • Clean the lint filter between loads; LG also suggests washing it with warm water and a soft brush and letting it dry before reinstalling it.
  • Reduce the load size so air can pass through.
  • Behind the dryer, check the duct is not crushed, dented, kinked or coiled like a spring, and has no holes or loose joints.
  • Outside, check the exhaust flaps open fully (LG suggests running Air Dry to watch them) and remove visible lint.
Book if the code stays after the duct has been cleaned end to end, or if a gas dryer shows d80 with a clear vent.LG USA Support
dE (door error)The dryer door is not completely closed.
  • Make sure the lint filter is pushed all the way in and no clothing is caught in the door.
  • Unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker, wait 5 seconds, restore power, close the door firmly and start a cycle.
  • On a brand-new dryer, look for a bent door or frame damage; LG says to contact the dealer if you find any.
Book if dE returns after the reset; LG says the dryer then needs service.LG USA Support
GAS (may look like 9A5)Gas dryers only: the dryer is not receiving gas. LG explains that the display is spelling GAS, which can look like 9A5.
  • LG's first step is to confirm the dryer's gas shut-off valve is fully open and the gas line is not kinked. Look only; do not loosen, bend or reconnect any gas fitting.
  • If the dryer was just installed, LG says to contact the installer.
Book if the valve is open and GAS stays. We diagnose the dryer; any valve or gas-connection work is done by a certified gas contractor we work with.LG USA Support
nPNo current is being detected at the heater. LG says this normally indicates a problem with the electrical wiring in the home.
  • Make sure the power cord is fully plugged into a grounded outlet that matches the dryer's rating plate (240 V).
  • Turn the dryer's breaker off for at least 10 seconds, then back on.
  • If nP remains, LG says the outlet may need to be checked by a licensed electrician.
Book if the breaker reset does not clear nP and an electrician has confirmed the outlet is supplying the right voltage.LG USA Support
PSImproper voltage at the power cord, which LG says could be caused by the white and red wires being reversed on the dryer's terminal block.
  • Turn the dryer's breaker off for at least 10 seconds and back on, and check the cord is fully plugged into a grounded 240 V outlet.
  • LG's page also points to the cord connection at the terminal block on the back. That is wiring work: on a new installation call the installer; otherwise leave it to an electrician or a technician.
Book if PS appears on a dryer whose cord has not been touched since it last worked normally.LG USA Support
HSThe dryer has detected an error with the humidity sensor. LG says this makes the dryer run for 2.5 hours, which can look as though it is not drying.
  • Clean the sensor bars inside the drum, below the lint filter, with a damp cloth or paper towel.
  • Let them dry completely before the next cycle.
Book if HS persists after the sensors have been cleaned.LG USA Support
F0 or flashing INSERT FILTERThe lint filter is not inserted properly. The sensor detects it and the dryer stops working.
  • Remove the lint filter and reinsert it fully into its housing.
Book if the message continues with the filter fully seated.LG USA Support
tE1 or tE3A problem was detected with the dryer's thermistor, the temperature sensor that helps hold the drum temperature.
  • Unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker.
  • While it has no power, press and hold START/PAUSE for 5 seconds.
  • Restore power and run another cycle.
Book if tE1 or tE3 returns after one reset.LG USA Support
tE2A thermistor problem that LG says normally happens in cold conditions, often during SteamFresh, Steam Sanitary or the Steam option, when cold outside air comes back into the dryer through an open exhaust vent and cools the duct too quickly.
  • Check the outside vent hood: flaps or louvres should close, and nothing (snow, frost, lint) should hold them open. Clear snow and ice from the hood.
  • Clean the lint filter.
  • Warm the dryer by running it empty on another cycle for a few minutes, or choose SteamFresh, press More Time until Big or Bulky shows, and start it.
Book if tE2 appears in mild weather or keeps returning once the vent hood closes properly.LG USA Support
TE4A problem with the thermistor causing the temperature in the dryer to be out of range.
  • None. LG says this code requires service.
Book when TE4 appears.LG USA Support
PFPower failure. LG says this usually happens after a power outage.
  • Unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker, press and hold START/PAUSE for 5 seconds while it has no power, then restore power and run a cycle.
Book if PF appears without any power interruption in the house or comes back after the reset.LG USA Support
E13 (hybrid condensing dryers)The drain hose is kinked, crushed or clogged, or the water in the sump is frozen. LG says this code appears only on hybrid condensing dryers.
  • Check the drain hose is not kinked, twisted or clogged at its end.
  • LG recommends using only the standard LG drain hose; an extended hose adds resistance and the dryer will not drain well.
  • Press START/PAUSE to restart once the hose is clear.
Book if E13 returns; LG says the dryer then needs repair service.LG USA Support
Add (Add Water)Steam models: a water supply error. The steam feeder must be filled to the MAX line before a steam cycle.
  • Fill the steam feeder drawer with tap water to the MAX line and close the drawer completely. LG says not to use distilled water.
  • If Add appears mid-cycle, press PAUSE, fill the feeder, turn the dryer off and on, select the steam cycle and press START/PAUSE.
Book only if Add keeps showing with a full feeder and a fully closed drawer.LG USA Support
E05 (E5)A problem with the water supply used for the steam cycle.
  • Check the water tap is fully open and not frozen or clogged.
  • Check the inlet hose is not kinked.
  • LG also lists cleaning the inlet filter; if you are not comfortable disconnecting the hose, leave that for the visit.
Book if E05 returns after a reset; LG says the dryer may then need repair service.LG USA Support
EEA problem with the main control board's EEPROM (its memory chip). LG lists this on its blinking-LED code page.
  • Unplug the dryer for 10 minutes, then plug it back in.
Book if EE persists; LG notes the main control board may need to be replaced, which a technician confirms first.LG USA Support

Finding the model and serial number

LG's support page says the dryer label is a silver label on the front panel behind the door: open the door and look on the panel around the drum opening, usually at the top. On a WashTower, the model and serial numbers are inside the door of the washer and of the dryer.

LG says its serial numbers start with three digits, the first for the year of manufacture and the next two for the month. Send us the full model number from the label and say whether the dryer is electric or gas.

What's specific to LG dryers

  • Flow Sense and the d-codes. LG explains that the dryer's hot, humid air must vent somewhere or the moisture stays in the drum, and that the d75 to d95 codes report how restricted the exhaust is. LG also notes that long duct runs, several elbows and transition ducts make blockages hard to trace, and suggests checking outside while the dryer runs to see whether air is actually leaving the house. When the fix is inside the walls, LG points owners to a dryer duct cleaner and suggests asking for the run length and the number of 90-degree elbows. See our dryer vent safety guide and clogged dryer vent page.
  • Winter venting. LG's own winter advice is to keep outside and roof vents clear of snow and ice and make sure the flaps are not frozen open. In an Ottawa or Gatineau winter, a drifted-over vent hood can produce a d-code, and a hood stuck open can let in the cold air that triggers tE2 on steam cycles.
  • Power codes that are not the dryer. nP means no current at the heater and PS means improper voltage at the cord; LG ties both to the home's wiring or the cord installation and says the outlet may need a licensed electrician. We check the dryer side; outlet and panel work belong to an electrician.
  • Gas models. On an LG gas dryer, GAS (which can read as 9A5) and sometimes d80 relate to the gas supply. We diagnose gas dryers; burner, igniter, valve and gas-connection work is done by a certified gas contractor we work with, not by our own technicians. If you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas utility from outside. Our gas smell guide has more.
  • Humidity sensors. Sensor-dry cycles rely on the bars below the lint filter. LG says a humidity sensor error sets a 2.5-hour cycle, so a dryer that seems to run forever may simply need those bars cleaned.
  • Steam and condensing models. Steam models use a feeder drawer filled with tap water, not distilled water, or on some models a water connection (E05). Hybrid condensing models drain water through a hose and can report E13 when that hose is kinked or the sump is frozen.

Recalls and notices

We found no Health Canada recall of LG clothes dryers when this page was reviewed in September 2026. We searched the Government of Canada Recalls and safety alerts site and its open-data export, which held records to 24 September 2026. The LG listings there cover electric ranges (2012 and 2025), 86-inch TVs, portable air conditioners, two top-load washer models (2012) and mobile phone products, not dryers. A keyword search of the whole export for dryers returned hair, pet and grooming dryers, not clothes dryers from any brand.

A recall is a formal safety action published by Health Canada with the manufacturer. A service bulletin is a manufacturer's repair note for technicians, and a complaint is an owner's report; neither is a recall. If you have a safety concern, search recalls-rappels.canada.ca with your model number.

When to book

Book when LG says a code needs service (TE4, EE that persists, dE or E13 after a reset), when a thermistor or humidity-sensor code returns after the checks above, or when the vent is clean and a d-code or Flow Sense bars remain. Stop using the dryer and book straight away if it smells of burning or the cabinet is too hot to touch. Tell us the code exactly as shown, whether the dryer is electric or gas, and the model number. The diagnostic is $89, waived if you go ahead with the repair, and the finding and quote are written before any work. If the vent needs installing or rerouting, see washer and dryer installation.

LG dryer questions

What does d80 mean on an LG dryer?

LG says d80 means the exhaust duct is about 80 percent restricted; d75, d90 and d95 follow the same pattern. Clean the lint filter, check the duct behind the dryer and the outside flaps. On a gas dryer, LG notes d80 can also point to a lack of gas supply.

Why does my LG dryer show tE2 in winter?

LG links tE2 to cold conditions, often on steam cycles, when cold outside air comes back through an exhaust hood that does not close. Clear snow and ice from the hood, check the flaps close, and warm the dryer with an empty cycle. Book if it appears in mild weather.

My LG dryer shows nP and won't heat. Is the heater broken?

Not necessarily. LG says nP means no current is reaching the heater and normally points to the home's wiring. Check the cord is fully plugged in and turn the breaker off for 10 seconds. If it stays, LG suggests having a licensed electrician check the outlet before a technician looks at the dryer.

How do I reset an LG dryer?

LG's reset is to unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker, press and hold START/PAUSE for 5 seconds while it has no power, then restore power. It clears PF and can clear a one-off tE1 or tE3. If a code comes back after one reset, book a diagnostic.

My LG gas dryer shows 9A5. What is that?

LG says it is the word GAS and means the dryer is not getting gas. Check that the shut-off valve is open and the line is not kinked, without touching any fittings. If it stays, book a visit; gas-connection work is done by a certified gas contractor we work with.

Are you an LG authorized service centre?

No. RepairWell is independent and not authorized by LG. We repair out-of-warranty LG dryers and give second opinions; in-warranty work should go through LG Canada.
