Who makes ASKO. ASKO began in 1950 in Vara, Sweden. Slovenia's Gorenje Group bought it in July 2010. Washer, dryer and dishwasher production moved from Sweden to Velenje, Slovenia, in 2013. Hisense took a 95% majority in Gorenje in June 2018, so ASKO is now part of the Hisense group. Health Canada's 2019 ASKO recall names Gorenje Group of Velenje as the manufacturer, and ASKO Canada's own registration form names Hisense USA and Connectlife as data controllers. Dishwashers: what is different.

• 8 Steel. ASKO says eight key parts of its dishwashers are steel rather than plastic: the tub, the loading racks, the spray pipe, the spray arms, the strainers, the outer base, the feet and the inner door. Steel spray arms and strainers don't crack the way plastic ones can. They still clog, so a "not cleaning" call on an ASKO still starts with the strainers and spray-arm holes.
• Drying. ASKO's premium models use Turbo Combi Drying, which ASKO describes as fan-assisted evacuation of moisture combined with Auto Door Opening; other models use Auto Door Open Drying with residual heat. A drying complaint can be the fan, the door-opening mechanism or simply the rinse aid, and we check in that order.
• Aqua Safe. ASKO describes Aqua Safe as a safety system that keeps the dishwasher leak-safe day and night. When a leak-protection system trips, the dishwasher may refuse to fill or may run its drain pump; the job is to find the water, not just reset the machine.
• Super Cleaning System. ASKO's SCS prepares the machine before the main wash. ASKO lists its current 50, 60 and 60+ series with 16 to 18 place settings, and an outdoor dishwasher.

Laundry: what is different.

• Steel Seal door. ASKO's washers, such as the W2084W sold in Canada, have no rubber door bellows. ASKO says removing the bellows prevents dirt traps and gives a leak-free door. There is no boot to tear or grow mould, so water under an ASKO washer is traced to other places: hoses, the pump area or the detergent drawer.
• Quattro construction. ASKO uses four shock absorbers that transfer drum vibration to the bottom plate. On a washer that walks or bangs on spin, we check those absorbers and the levelling before anything else.
• Heat-pump dryers. ASKO's T411HSW is a ventless heat-pump dryer that circulates processed air inside a stainless-steel drum and collects the water in a container. ASKO lists a Multi Filter System (lint trap, mesh filter, foam filter and lint cup), Butterfly Drying paddles that tumble clothes in a figure eight, and a Soft Drum. With four filter stages, a dryer that takes much longer than it used to often has a clogged filter. The heat pump is a small sealed refrigerant circuit: We diagnose the sealed system; the refrigerant work itself is done for us by a certified refrigeration technician.

Recall. On 26 September 2019 Health Canada posted a recall of ASKO dishwashers in stainless and panel-ready finishes, sold from October 2016 to July 2019. Fifteen models were covered, including D5426XLS, D5526XLFI, D5536XLFI, D5636XLHS/TH and D5656XXLHS/PH, within specific serial ranges. The notice says internal wiring can overheat, melt or catch fire, and about 4,324 units were sold in Canada. Owners were told to stop using the dishwasher and contact the manufacturer for a repair. If you own one of those models, check its serial number before anything else; we will not do an ordinary repair on a unit that is still subject to the recall.

Finding your ASKO model and serial number

ASKO Canada's product registration page gives the label location for each product:

• Dishwasher: on the right side of the inner door panel or tank. Open the door and look along the right edge.
• Dryer: behind the dryer door, in the upper left corner of the unit.
• Washer: above the glass door, on the inner panel.

ASKO asks for three things from that label: the serial number (next to the bar code), the article number (a six-digit product number) and the model name. The article number matters: two ASKO machines with the same model name can use different parts, and the article number tells them apart. If your dryer is stacked, the washer label is still easy to reach; the dryer label is behind its door. Photograph the whole label and send it with your booking. Parts and compatibility

ASKO parts are ASKO-specific and are matched to the model, serial and article number; they do not cross over with other brands. ASKO has built its dishwashers and laundry in Slovenia since 2013, so a part that is not stocked in North America takes longer to arrive. We put the expected lead time in the written quote. The steel parts ASKO highlights rarely need replacing. Pumps, heaters, sensors, control boards, door parts and, on dryers, filters and heat-pump components are the model-specific parts.

For stacked laundry, tell us the closet width and whether the dryer is on a stacking kit; some washer repairs need the dryer lifted off, and we plan for that.
