Panasonic in Canada. Panasonic Canada Inc. sells Panasonic's microwaves here and runs the Canadian warranty. Its product site lists countertop and over-the-range microwaves, combination ovens, trim kits for built-in installs in 24-, 27- and 30-inch widths, and a wall-oven category. Examples include the HL-BD82S convection wall oven, which Panasonic describes as having twin convection fans, 11 cooking functions and electrostatic touch controls.

Inverter technology, and why it matters for a repair. Panasonic Canada says it introduced inverter microwaves in 1988. A conventional microwave pulses its magnetron fully on and off to reach lower power levels. Panasonic's inverter uses "linear power control" to deliver a steady stream of power. Panasonic says this gives more even cooking. For a repair, it means the magnetron is driven by an electronic inverter power supply, and a "runs but doesn't heat" fault has to be traced through that board, the magnetron and their connections. All of that is high-voltage work, and only a technician should do it. Panasonic's newer Cyclonic Inverter models build on the same system. Combination ovens add convection, a broiler, air frying and more fans and sensors. The NN-CD87KSC, for example, pairs 1,000 W inverter microwave power with a 1,300 W broiler, air fry and convection bake.

Over-the-range models. The NN-SG158S is a 30-inch, 1.9 cu. ft., 1,000 W over-the-range microwave with Genius Sensor cooking, a 400 cfm exhaust fan, LED cooktop lighting and a glass-touch control panel. An over-the-range microwave is also your range hood. Like other over-the-range units, it has a grease filter you can clean, and a recirculating install also has a charcoal filter you can replace. Fan and light faults are common repairs. The unit hangs on a wall plate above the stove, so taking it down is a job for the technician, not the homeowner.

Panasonic notices and recalls.

• NN-SG158S door notice. In a quality improvement notice dated 9 February 2026, Panasonic Canada said the outer door panel on some NN-SG158S units could loosen over time. It extended the door warranty to five years from purchase for serial numbers 6H59000001 to 6H85000001, built May 2019 to August 2025. If your door panel is loose, call Panasonic at 1-800-561-5505 before paying anyone for the repair.
• Toaster oven recall (not a microwave). On 16 July 2026 Health Canada posted a recall of the Panasonic FlashXpress toaster oven, model NB-G205S in Canada, because of an electric-shock risk from the power cord. Owners were told to stop using it and return it to Panasonic Canada for a refund. We found no Panasonic microwave recall on Health Canada's site in September 2026.

What you can safely check. Make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the outlet works with a lamp. Wipe the door seal and the frame around the opening. Health Canada advises keeping the door and seal clean without abrasive cleaners, and food build-up can stop the door from closing properly. Check that the glass tray sits on its coupler and that the roller ring is clean and seated. On an over-the-range model, wash the metal grease filters in hot soapy water. Look closely at the door, hinges, latches and screen. If anything is bent, warped or damaged, stop using the microwave, as Health Canada advises. Do not remove the outer case or any panel.

Error codes. Panasonic's support page says some messages are normal: "COOLING" means the fan is cooling the electronics, "D" or "DEMO MODE" means the oven is in store-display mode and will not heat, and on some models U50 or "HOT" means the oven is too hot and needs to cool. For E01, E05, E06, E08, H00, H20, H30, H32, H39, H90, H95, H96, H97, H98, H99 or "Service," Panasonic says to stop using the microwave, unplug it and contact service. Finding your Panasonic model and serial number

Panasonic's North American support says the serial and model numbers on microwave ovens are "located on the inside door panel strip." Open the door and look at the label on the frame around the opening. Panasonic microwave model numbers start with NN- or NE-. For other Panasonic products, the same page says the label is typically on the back or the bottom. For a Panasonic wall oven, check the owner's manual. The Canadian warranty depends on the exact model number, and the NN-SG158S door notice depends on the serial number, so photograph the whole label. Send it with your booking. Parts and compatibility

Panasonic microwave parts are specific to the model. Common repairs include door switches and latch parts, inverter power boards, magnetrons, touch control panels and membrane keypads, turntable motors, and over-the-range fan motors and lights. Panasonic's Canadian warranty table covers many models for one to three years, and lists extra years of magnetron coverage, parts only, on top of that. The NN-DS59NB and NN-SC64MB, for example, have one year of carry-in service plus four more years on the magnetron part. So on a recent Panasonic, the magnetron itself may still be covered even though labour is not. We check that before quoting.

A countertop microwave often costs less to replace than to repair once it needs a board or a magnetron outside warranty, and the written finding says so plainly. Built-in, over-the-range and combination units, and wall ovens, cost more to replace and are more often worth fixing. Any door, hinge, latch or seal problem is a safety repair.
