Who makes Hotpoint. GE Appliances says that in the Americas, meaning the USA, Canada, and Central and Latin America, "the Hotpoint brand is owned by GE Appliances," and GE Appliances sells Hotpoint products there. GE Appliances has been owned by Haier since 2016. Hotpoint started in the United States in the early 1900s with Earl Richardson's electric iron. In Europe the Hotpoint name has a different owner: GE Appliances' support page says it belongs to Whirlpool Corporation, and since 2024 it has been part of Beko Europe, the joint venture of Arçelik and Whirlpool. A Hotpoint from the U.K. and a Hotpoint from a Canadian store share a name and nothing else. Online parts searches often mix the two, which is one reason we order by the model number.

Hotpoint in Canada. For decades, Canadian Hotpoint appliances came out of Camco, the Canadian Appliance Manufacturing Company, formed in 1977 when General Electric Canada merged its appliance business with General Steel Wares. Library and Archives Canada's history of Camco lists General Electric, Hotpoint, Moffat, McClary and Beaumont among its brands, with plants in Ontario and Quebec. That is why so many older Ottawa and Gatineau homes still have a Hotpoint alongside a Moffat or a GE. Today GE Appliances Canada sells Hotpoint models such as the 15.6 cu. ft. HPE16BTNRWW top-freezer fridge, which is frost-free, ready for an optional ice maker and covered by a one-year limited parts and labour warranty. GE Appliances tells Canadian owners to use its authorized distributor, Mabe Canada Inc. (formerly Camco), for manuals, service and parts.

What makes Hotpoint different to repair. Hotpoint is GE Appliances' simplest line, and that is mostly good news for repairs:

• Fewer electronics. Hotpoint's current U.S. washer, the HTW265ASWWW, is a 4.0 cu. ft. top-loader with a stainless steel basket and manual water-level control. Knob controls and mechanical timers mean more faults come down to a switch, a belt, a pump or a timer, and fewer to a control board.
• Shared platforms. Hotpoint appliances come from the same company as GE-branded models and often use the same basic designs. Many parts are common, which helps with price and availability. They are not all interchangeable, though, and we check each part against the model number.
• Coil-top ranges. On a Hotpoint range with plug-in coil elements, a dead element can be the element, its receptacle or the infinite switch behind the knob. Seeing whether an element works in another spot is a safe check. Anything behind the control panel is technician work.
• Top-freezer fridges. A frost-free top-freezer fridge that is warm in the fresh-food section while the freezer stays cold often points to the defrost system or the evaporator fan. Frost on the back wall of the freezer is a common clue.

Recalls. GE Appliances Canada's recall page lists no Hotpoint recall, and Health Canada's recall search found none when we checked in September 2026. Check again with your model number before paying for a repair.

Finding your Hotpoint model and serial number

GE Appliances' model and serial locator is written for GE and GE Profile. Hotpoint appliances in North America come from the same company, so start in the same places:

• Top-freezer fridges: inside the fresh-food section on the left wall near the top; on the freezer ceiling near the front; near the temperature controls; behind the crisper drawers; on the bottom front edge; or on the left or right wall near the crisper.
• Ranges: behind the door on the front frame; under the left front surface unit (electric coil models); under a lift-up cooktop; behind the rear control panel on gas models; on the left leg behind the drawer or kick panel; or inside the drawer on the front frame.
• Top-load washers: under the lid near the right hinge; on the back of the control panel; at the bottom left corner; or on the back near the water inlets.
• Dryers: inside the front face of the dryer opening, on the left or right side, with the door open.
• Dishwashers: on the left or right front inside edge of the tub, or on the right side edge of the door.
• Microwaves: inside on the left side wall; on the bottom of over-the-range models near the back; or on the back.

Parts and compatibility

Hotpoint parts are GE Appliances parts. In Canada they come through Mabe Canada, GE Appliances' authorized distributor, whose parts line is 1-800-661-1616. Because Hotpoint shares basic designs with GE models, the common parts, such as coil elements and receptacles, infinite switches, bake and broil elements, dryer belts, idlers and thermal fuses, defrost parts, water valves and drain pumps, are usually easy to get. Parts for older Camco-era Hotpoints can be harder to find, and some are discontinued. When a part is no longer made, the written finding says so and gives you the repair-or-replace verdict.

Ignore parts listings for European Hotpoint appliances. They are a different company's products. On a basic appliance, a control board or a sealed-system repair can cost close to the price of a new unit. The finding shows the repair price so you can compare it with replacing the appliance.
