About Monogram appliances

Who makes Monogram. Monogram is a brand of GE Appliances, which Haier bought from General Electric on June 6, 2016. GE, GE Profile, Café, Monogram, Haier and Hotpoint are all GE Appliances brands in the Americas. In Canada, GE Appliances' support page says that product information, manuals, repair service and parts for GE, GE Profile, Café, Monogram and Haier appliances go through its authorized distributor, Mabe Canada Inc. Monogram's Canadian site is monogram.ca, and its service scheduling links to GE Appliances Canada's service portal.

Collections. Monogram sells three design collections. GE Appliances describes Minimalist as flush installation with only essential hardware, LCD screens and push-to-open oven doors; Statement as edge-to-edge handles, robust knobs and stainless steel with brass accents; and the Designer collection as introducing custom refrigeration panels up to 244 cm (96 in.) high, with brass and titanium hardware. When Monogram introduced Statement and Minimalist in 2020, it showed a 122 cm (48 in.) Pro range with brass dual-stack burners and a 7-inch articulating LCD, a single wall oven with Direct Air convection, a French-door wall oven with twin-fan convection, a convection steam oven, and the Open Hearth oven. Monogram's Canadian site also lists 5-in-1 ovens, warming drawers, a heated ice press, and over-the-air upgrades for connected appliances.

Panel-ready refrigeration and dishwashers. Monogram's custom-panel planner lists 76 cm (30 in.) convertible units, column refrigerators and freezers with integrated panels, and 91, 107 and 122 cm (36, 42 and 48 in.) custom-panel built-ins with flush-inset or overlay options, plus fully integrated dishwashers. It describes four panel styles: integrated with a 3 mm (1/8 in.) reveal, flush inset with a 6 mm (1/4 in.) reveal, 19 mm (3/4 in.) overlay and 6 mm (1/4 in.) framed panels. Those tight reveals are why a Monogram repair often starts with planning: a gasket, hinge or door adjustment on an integrated unit has to go back to the same reveal, or the panel will rub or the door will not seal.

Reading a Monogram serial number. GE Appliances says a Monogram serial number is two letters followed by six numbers. The first letter is the month of manufacture and the second is the year, and the code repeats every 12 years, so "GA" is April 2001 or April 2013. To tell which, GE Appliances suggests checking the publication date on the owner's manual. The age matters for parts: an older Monogram built-in may use a control or dispenser that is no longer made.

Quebec note for Gatineau owners. Under section 39 of Quebec's Consumer Protection Act, GE Appliances Canada (MC Commercial Inc.) publishes a disclaimer that it does not guarantee the availability of replacement parts, repair services or repair information for its brands, including Monogram. It still offers warranty service through its own service centres and authorized technicians. In practice this means parts for older Monogram models are not guaranteed, and the written finding will say if a part is discontinued.

Recalls. On October 27, 2010, the Government of Canada published a recall of GE Profile and GE Monogram dishwashers sold from January 2004 to December 2006, including Monogram ZBD models listed in the notice. The notice says condensation can drip onto the electronic control board, causing a short circuit and an overheated connector, a fire hazard; about 5,320 units across both brands were sold in Canada. GE Appliances Canada's recall page also lists "GE Monogram Pro Rangetops with Grills" (August 20, 2014) and "GE Profile and Monogram Built-in Wall Ovens" (November 18, 2008). Check your model on those pages before paying for a repair.

Finding your Monogram model and serial number

GE Appliances' support article on Monogram rating plates points to Monogram's online model-number finder, which shows the plate location for each appliance. Monogram owner's manuals published by GE Appliances also give locations; examples from the manuals we checked:

• Wall ovens: on a label on the front of the oven behind the oven door; on double ovens, on the front of the lower oven behind the door.
• Older 91 to 122 cm (36 to 48 in.) built-in refrigerators: on a label above the freezer compartment, behind the top panel.

Newer models can differ, so use the model-number finder or your owner's manual for your exact model. The serial number is two letters followed by six numbers, and the first two letters give the month and year of manufacture. Parts and compatibility

Monogram parts in Canada come through GE Appliances' Canadian distribution, and they are model-specific: panel-ready door hardware, dispensers, controls and displays on a Monogram are not the same parts as on a GE or Café unit. We look parts up by the exact model and serial number, quote them in the written finding with the price and expected lead time, and flag any part that is discontinued. As noted above, GE Appliances Canada does not guarantee parts availability for its brands in Quebec, and older Monogram parts can be hard to find on either side of the river.

What makes Monogram service different:

• Tight panel reveals. Integrated and flush-inset panels leave 3 to 6 mm (1/8 to 1/4 in.) of clearance. Door and hinge work has to restore that alignment.
• Two-person work. Built-ins and columns are heavy. Pulling one from its opening is a two-person job and may need trim removed.
• Sealed systems. We diagnose them; refrigerant work is done for us by a certified refrigeration technician.
• Dual-fuel and gas. The electric oven is our repair. Burners, igniters, valves and gas connections go to the certified gas contractor we work with.
• Software. Connected Monogram appliances can receive over-the-air upgrades. A replacement control may need the right software for the model, so it has to be the correct board, not just one that fits.
